This is not really the second day. The idea didn't start yesterday. It started Easter 2005. We went to São Pedro de Corval on our way to Monsaraz with my mother, who is American. We stopped to look in a pottery shop and noticed that there were not 1 or 2 but like 20 shops-it turns out there are around 40 different potters there. We loved everything and my mother mentioned that she thought she could sell pottery like that in the store where she works-a gift shop incorporated into a pharmacy in rural America.
That got us thinking and we returned there sometime later to meet with potters, ask prices, weigh pottery, measure it, take photos, etc. Then the idea got put on the back burner because of life and shipping seemed difficult. Well last week we went again to São Pedro de Corval with my sister-in-law and brother and once again there was ooing and ahhing, excitement, and so we are back to the drawing board. This time more determined, with another trip there scheduled and a trip to the US scheduled, a suitcase load of pottery, and a blog (which should make all the difference in the world). So here we go. I do know that I will have a great plate collection, as well as my mother and sister-in-law, so it is a win win situation for everyone and that's the secret to a great business!
